Travignoli Stele - Detail C

Archaeological Museum

Type:
Room: Reperti archeologici

Description

The last scene we notice in the Travignoli Stele depicts a hunting scene between animals. A deer, in the center of the scene, is attacked by two felines. The one on the left, the only one preserved, bites the neck of the deer, which has its head turned to the right and is still raised on its forelimbs. Hunting-related images are widespread in paintings and tomb monuments such as this stele. Such activities were well established in Etruscan society: hunting and fishing, in fact, were routinely practiced by all social classes.
