The strigilated ollae

Archaeological Museum

Type:
Room: Reperti archeologici

Description

In this showcase, still talking about the finds from the site I Monti di San Piero a Sieve, we can observe a series of strigilate ollae, which are pot-bellied vessels with or without handles with wavy groove decorations. The ollae, made of unpurified pottery, were made of clay impasto of different colors between red, yellow and brown. They were found practically intact inside the pit, which may have been functional for the water supply of the kiln and into which pots, no longer useful, were thrown when the site was abandoned, or it may have been a small votive pit. The ollae are of various sizes and impasto with different decorations dating to the seventh and sixth centuries BCE.
