Stencil-decorated wall: "the race on the knees"

Archaeological Museum

Type: Reperto archeologico
Room: Reperti archeologici

Description

One of the exhibits that certainly catches our attention most in this showcase is the one marked number 12. It is an enlarged and colored reproduction of a decorated wall mold dating from about 600 B.C. The square black bucchero mold features a frame enclosing a human figure clearly in a "running kneeling" position. This is evidenced by the legs, the right bent forward and the left bent at the knee, frontal torso, and arms raised at right angles. The right hand appears to be holding a spheroid-shaped object. This stamp decoration arouses particular attention because of the originality of the position of the non-static figure. Usually these decorations followed one another and had geometric shapes representing animals, human figures, and plant forms.
