Antefix

Description

Find #12 is an example of an antefix, which is a decorative element placed at the end of the rows of roof tiles along the eave line. Painted in bright colors and in the shape of naturalistic elements, or more often masks of fantastic beings, gorgons or animals, it was placed in both Greek, Etruscan and Roman public and sacred buildings. The antefix in question, representing a human head, comes from Poggio Colla and comes to us directly from the Archaic period.
