Archaeological Museum

Type: Reperti archeologici
Room: Reperti archeologici

Description

In this showcase we can admire beautiful ceramics found from the site I Monti di San Piero a Sieve, all dating from around the seventh century before Christ. Finds of various domestic use for hygienic or liturgical uses such as round-shaped basins and various fragments of them, as you can see in number 1 and objects for kiln use that are marked with numbers 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. The stamp-decorated basins on high feet have a mostly semi-pure light red, yellowish red, or gray impasto with stamp decoration on the rim. Other type of decoration on the rim, called impressions, can be seen in the dark gray bucchero impasto fragment. In No. 2 we see the stems with swelling of dark gray buccheroid impasto and others of light red impasto, pertinent to basins on high foot or to attachment to the basin. Regarding the objects for use in the kiln , we dwell on the ellipsoid-shaped sandstone and alberese pebble and smoother used for smoothing artifacts. There are also pot spacers in dark gray impasto, and some firing scraps in dark gray and yellowish impasto.
