Description

The group of imported ceramics, identified in the display case with numbers 18-20, testifies that the Monti settlement was certainly not isolated, but well embedded in the trade routes that crossed the Apennines from southern and central Etruria into the Po Valley. These are fragments of Etruscan-Corinthian pottery and Attic black-figure and red-figure pottery. The importation of figured pottery or containers for ointments and perfumes was perhaps intended for the grave goods of the shaft tombs that were part of the Monti site, showing that the core population buried there had considerable economic availability and knowledge of the products that circulated in Etruria. Also indicative of trade is a vinous transport amphora, the finding of which is a reminder that not only objects were traded, but also perishable goods such as wine, oil, cloth, fabrics, and hides, of which only evidence remains thanks to their transport containers, which were certainly more durable.
