Description
A 6th-century B.C.E. gravestone, made of gray sandstone, found in a wall of a farmhouse at Pian de' Poggioli in the municipality of Scarperia. It presents itself without a crowning and with deep chipping and abrasions on all sides, The faces, partially preserved, present figures in bas-relief, as in face b where we can observe an animal, perhaps a feline, standing on its hind legs, in profile facing left, in the other face, another animal with wing and front paw in support, , completely lost the side face, while in the 'other we can see the trace of a human foot. Originally the cippus must have been of considerable size, this also seems to comply with the iconographic scheme in which there are three animal figures on three faces and a human on the fourth face. The base has very fine decorations, this suggests to us a high artistic effort in its making.
