Cugge belonged to Renato Giusti

Museum of Cycling Gino Bartali

Type:
Room: Bicicletta

Description

The bicycle on display is a Cugge racing model, dating from the 1930s and is a gift from Renato Giusti , patron of the Antonella knitwear factory - Club 88 , Gino's historical sponsor as well as his close friend and former racer . This model mounts the Vittoria-Margherita gearbox with the special feature of mechanical diverters controlled by the chain tensioner. In the previous versions, without diverters , to change gears one had to operate the tensioner going to loosen the chain , move it manually to the affected gear and then make tension to the chain by moving the lever . With this system the rider did not run the risk of having to turn around and put his fingers near the chain , it was in fact sufficient to rotate the upper part of the tensioner .
