OLYMPIA Milan

Museum of Cycling Gino Bartali

Type:
Room: Bicicletta

Description

Olimpya Milano is Italy's second largest velocipede factory; it was founded by Carlo Borghi in 1893, and was distinguished by extremely accurate production even down to the smallest details. This model still mounts the well-preserved original components such as: the saddle, the tool holder, the wooden rims with Palmer (that's what the tubular was called then), the wheel rim and the chain oiler. The system to oil the chain, worked by filling the vertical tube with oil, going to move the small tube inserted on the tube , you would get a few drops of oil on the chain. This was a very useful detail given the extremely dusty roads of the time.
