Description

Masi Faliero was born in 1908 in Sesto Fiorentino, and after a career as a cyclist without any particular sharpness, he tried his hand at handcrafting bicycles "sewn" to the customer that enhanced their characteristics. Not surprisingly, throughout his career he would also be referred to as "The Taylor" the tailor . He was called to work in Milan in 1940 where he became a mechanic for Viscontea , a team in which another young Tuscan Fiorenzo Magni emerged . In 1949 he founded the company MASI , initially he would build bikes for many professional champions , but they were marked with the logo of the team they belonged to . It was not until the late 1950s , early 1960s that the first Masi bikes were seen . In 1952 he moved the headquarters under the curves of the Vigorelli velodrome , where his son Alberto still carries on the family tradition , focusing also on track bikes , he was also Maspes' trusted mechanic . In 1959 he built in two days a bike for Jacques Anquetil, who arrived at the Vigorelli to break the hour record with a very light French bike, found serious difficulties in making it run straight and only thanks to Masi's intervention did he beat Fausto Coppi's record .
