Description
After the austere postwar period, European artistic and cultural life flourishes again in Paris. The prestigious haute couture ateliers became a hub for new trends. The splendid dress embroidered with glass beads, displayed at left, shows the new fashions, loose and simplified, without a waist, and short below the knee instead of down to the feet. For evening wear, the imagination of the great tailors interprets different trends that take their cues from classical art or the Orient: the evening gown displayed in the center shows, in fact, a flounce decoration, which recalls the ornamentation of ancient Greek ceramics. If the dresses are simplified, the look is enriched by the accessories, which become unfailing . A fine example of this are the gloves and handbag displayed alongside and made from fine leathers in keeping with the dress.
