Description
The four white marble shells, with their peculiar elongated shape, s ono decorative elements of the fanciful "Artichoke Fountain," assembled by Francesco Susini between 1639 and 1642. The four small sculptures s ono placed on the steps surrounding the sculptural complex, two are placed on the side facing the Amphitheater, and two are on the steps facing the Palace. The works were probably made by Susini's collaborators in the 17th century (Gurrieri 1972; Caneva 1982)
