Room: Il Viottolone
Description
Son of Zeus and Latona, god of medicine, music, and all the other arts, Apollo has always been identified with the sun. The statue that now appears before us is the sunny expression of this god. The expression of his face, the movement of his arms, and the serenity of his nakedness show his complete openness to wisdom and beauty. The left arm is placed on a pseudo-obelisk column of white marble, on which the image of a wise man is depicted, indicating that the qualities acquired are based on wisdom. This mythical figure conceals a series of symbols that alchemists are familiar with. Thus, to master the path that awaits you in the Boboli Garden, man must acquire the splendor of Apollo, the ultimate expression of the attainment of virtue and physical strength.
