Description

Aesculapius is a character in Greek and Roman mythology. The son of Apollo and Arsinoe according to Hesiod, or of Apollo and Coronides for Pindar, he is a demigod and therefore mortal man for Homer. He was said to have been instructed in medicine by the centaur Chiron,[1] or to have inherited that property from his father Apollo. He later became the god of medicine, like his father, and was a deity much worshipped by the people, as he was benevolent to the sick; the constellation Ophiuchus represents his myth.
