Description

This plaque commemorates San Godenzo's decisive role in the beginning of Dante Alighieri's exile. After the final condemnation issued by the Podestà of Florence, the Poet did not give up on the idea of being able to return to Florence. e He took part on June 8, 1302, in a conference in the Abbey of San Godenzo together with the other Guelph white outcasts and the leaders of the Ghibelline party, to which many ancient feudal families, including the Guidi and Ubaldini, belonged.
