Type: statua
Room: Ingresso Annalena
Description
The sculpture was attributed to Poggini allegedly a pupil and collaborator of Cellini, by Venturi, based on stylistic comparison with the Apollo now in Boboli signed and dated. Although not taken up by later critics, there is a compact volumetric layout of Bandinellian origin, reminiscent, albeit in the greater swelling of the limbs , of the youthful marble by Poggini mentioned earlier. Hellenizing features in the expression of slight patheticism of the eyes derived from Alexandrian-era traits point the work toward a revival of the manner of Vincenzo de' Rossi. Identified as 'Bacchus,' it has no specific attribute of the god. It could perhaps be recognized in the harp player depicted by Vascellini, standing at the time in the Grand Ducal collections, because of the rigid seated pose and the presence of the rock
