Description

The young man depicted wears a hat, a jacket, and short pants at the calf. The sculpture's face looks upward in the direction of the left hand holding a glove. The sculpture can be identified with Domenico Pieratti's "Hunter with Sparrowhawk," the work belonging to the thirty-two sculptures of "Arcadian subject matter" commissioned to the sculptor by Ferdinand II, was paid for on November 16, 1647. Pieratti received 68 scudi for "dua statues delivered to Donini that he says are situated around the lake of the Isola de' Giardino di Boboli, estimated by the sculptor Cosimo Salvestrini that a Hunter with a sparrowhawk in his fist, of pietra bigia 38 scudi, to which was added another 40 scudi for the Peasant Girl Joking with the Brachios."
