Author: Giovan Battista Caccini
Type: statua
Room: Giardino del Cavaliere
Description
The statue is not mentioned in the eighteenth-century texts of the garden, nor by Baldinucci. Perhaps it is to be related to the Autumn and Summer statues of the Viottolone, since the iconography is quite similar to the depiction of Spring (Ripa). The provenance is unknown, perhaps even from the lawn in front, which eighteenth-century sources recall decorated with many statues: it was certainly not in the present place, as Lamberti's view (18th cent.) shows. Compared to the other sculptures of the 'Seasons,' the image is more composed and static, reminiscent of the ancient statuary of the Antonine age in the grand ducal collections
