St. Anthony Abbot

Abbey of San Godenzo

Type:
Room: Presbiterio

Description

This painting must have been executed for one of the altars that occupied the two side aisles. The hypothesis is supported by the numerous altars that over the centuries have been erected in honor of the great animal-friendly hermit in many churches in the Florentine countryside and beyond. The work is generally referred to a Florentine painter working shortly after the middle of the 17th century, probably no later than the eighth decade.
