Museum of Cycling Gino Bartali

Type:
Room: Motocicli

Description

The Automoto factory, as is easily understood from the name, initially built automobiles in the Paris plant and Moto-Bicycles in the Lyon plant. They participated in one of the very first Gordon Bennet Cups (embryo of the world motor racing championship), where they competed under national colors . They were not very successful with 4-wheel vehicles and later concentrated on motorcycles and bicycles. The bike on display is named "Populaire pour Dammes" and dates from 1913 . It mounts the very rare 28X1X3/8 wooden rims and special pitch chain classic to the brand that is not interchangeable with others on the market. Particular the candle headlight with a system that allowed the full use of the same by sliding the tube inside the headlight . Also characteristic of the period the front "pressello" brake and the rear coaster .
