Description
David is depicted as a naked young man with his face tilted slightly to the right. The biblical hero holds a sling in his left hand and a sword in his right hand; between his legs the head of Goliath can be seen. There is no certain information about the sculpture; it may have been made by Domenico Pieratti, who on September 6, 1620, offered a David for sale to the Grand Ducal administration. However, there is also a payment, dated November 12, 1627, made to Bartolomeo Rossi for a "fiura of stone of braccia 3, which represents a Davit, made of the invention of Giulio Parigi."
