Description

This sculpture depicting Bacchus, decorates one of the niches surrounding the Fountain of the Island, of the work only the name of the author is known: Francesco Generini. The sculptor on September 12, 1631 was paid 43 scudi for a statue of a "Bacchino et un Nettuno di macigno che fece [...] per i l giardino de' Pitti a Boboli" (Capecchi 2008, p. 95; ASF, Scrittoio delle Regie Possessioni, f. 4120, c. CVIII)
